“Are you going to pass the blunt or not?” asked Annalise in Gabriel's direction. He was sitting on the roof of their van, looking out the horizon with a lost expression. Ever since they started their road trip across Europe together, Gabriel had managed to get himself weed in every major city they stopped at. Annalisse didn’t smoke before, but lately she’d been having fun when she smoked with her boys.
“Come on over,” Gabriel said, just before taking another hit of the lit blunt. She climbed to the roof of the van, sat down in front of him and reached out but Gabriel took his hand away. “Stay still and inhale when I get close.”
Slightly confused, she did as she was told and Gabriel leaned in close, lips almost touching as he let go of the smoke. Annalise inhaled, closing her eyes. A few moments later, she exhaled the smoke without feeling the usual burn down her throat.
When she opened her eyes again, Gabriel was extending the blunt to her. “Now it’s your turn.”
Just then Nathan decided to come out of the van, staring up at his lovers.
“Are you guys getting high?”
Annalise, who’d just taken a hit of the blunt, bursted out laughing, hard enough that it turned into a coughing fit. “You should join us,” she called from the roof of the van.
Nathan rolled his eyes, but started climbing anyway.
“How come Gabriel always has something to smoke?” he asked, sitting down so he was the third side of their little triangle. Annalise took another hit and leaned towards Gabriel, their lips brushing when she exhaled. When she pulled back, Gabriel threw his head back and exhaled, his long, pale neck stretched giving her a full view to the hickeys he barely hid under his shirt.
Annalise touched Nathan’s arm and then brought her body closer. She took a deep inhale of the blunt and tilted Nathan’s head slightly, so that his lips parted, then she closed the distance and exhaled, just like Gabriel showed her.
Nathan caught up immediately, mimicking Gabriel with a little less finesse. He took the lit joint from Annalise when she offered it to him, took a hit and did the same thing to Annalise, giving her the warm smoke from his beautiful mouth. It wasn’t the same as smoking, but the gentle brush of Nathan’s breath was enough to keep her going.
“You learn fast,” Annalise remarked, still leaning in Nathan’s direction.
“I’ve got good tutors,” he replied, a cheeky smile playing at the corner of his lips.
They passed the blunt around until there was nothing left to smoke. The sun was setting on the West, bathing Gabriel and Nathan in orange light. Annalise knew without a doubt that if Nathan could see it, he’d try to draw it.
She took out her phone and snapped a quick picture of them for her instagram. “For posterity,” she announced.
Both of her boyfriends smiled, making her heart beat double time. Then she threw herself at them to wrap them in a hug.
