The bass in the techno playlist Riley had curated for them was delicious. So much so that Amanita could feel it flowing inside her veins.
"Nomi… Noms… my wife," Amanita said, holding her hand out to her beautiful wife.
"Yes, love?"
"Riley's hair is dancing."
Riley turned to Amanita then with a dopey smile on her face. "It is?"
"The blue strands are dancing," clarified Amanita. Riley unconsciously touched her hair, stopping the blue's strands movement. "Aw, they stopped."
"Sorry," said Riley, letting go of her hair. Amanita watched for a moment, expecting Riley's hair to move again. When it didn't, she sat up.
"Woah," she said, looking at her hands.
"What? What happened?" Nomi asked.
"My hands are so pretty." They were. Amanita's hands were slender and soft and her ring sparkled beautifully on it. She waved them in front of Nomi's face. "Have you seen them?"
"You are pretty," Nomi said.
"You so are," Riley added with a dopey smile. After a moment, she looked around and frowned. "Where's Will?"
"He went to the bodega down the street to get you candy, remember?" Nomi's voice was so gentle and soothing… Amanita would have followed her anywhere.
"What happened to our candy?" Amanita asked.
"You ate it already." Nomi's voice was teasing. "Don't you remember? You ate the rainbow!"
Amanita's memories of the last three hours were happy but fuzzy. However, she did remember that earlier that night Riley and Amanita had eaten tons of Skittles while discussing said rainbow in depth.
Riley laughed. "Lito is freaking out. He says he's got reshoots in two hours and I'm too high for him to focus."
Amanita's laugh filled the room then. "Tell Lito to loosen up a bit."
"He says he doesn't need to loosen up," Nomi said relayed after a moment.
"Does all the cluster feel high right now?" Amanita asked. "Because Riley is?"
"It's not really like that. I'm not high," said Nomi. "Neither is Will."
"Then why is Lito—"
"Because he's a drama queen," Riley teased. To the space next to Nomi, she said, "oh, you so are! Nomi tell him he's being irrational about this."
"Lito, you are being irrational about this."
The door to Amanita's apartment opened and closed gently. A moment later, Will was in their room, smiling at Riley who was sprawled on the floor with a big smile on her face.
"I brought more rainbows," he announced seriously. Both Amanita and Riley burst out laughing. "What?"
Riley and Amanita couldn't stop laughing. In fact, every time they caught each other's eye, they laughed harder.
Will asked Nomi something, but Amanita couldn't hear her wife's reply because all she could do was laugh. Her face hurt from laughing so much and she wasn't even sure what she was laughing about.
Once they finally could stop laughing, Riley asked, "god, what was so funny?"
"Will?" Nomi suggested.
Will snorted. "Rainbows?"
Amanita and Riley shared a smile, barely holding their laughter in.
"Oh, Riley, you should visit San Francisco more often. I love having a shrooms buddy."
Riley's eyes sparkled. "You should come to a Berlin rave with me and Wolfgang. We'll show you psychedelics that'll change your life."
Amanita would love that. Getting to know the people who loved Nomi unconditionally sounded like a great time all around. She wanted everyone to love her wife just like she did. Instead of expressing all that though, she set on the simplest possible answer. "Deal."
