Riko is gone
It was confirmed by the family.
Now it's real.
He's gone and all I can think about it's about how much pressure he must have been on to take his own life for not winning a goddamn championship. What did they do to you, my love?
I refuse to let him die like a basket case, so I'll remember him smiling to his fans, the only ones who love him unconditionally. Championship or not.

I feel like my hair is on fire!
As a casual fan of this bastard sport, I gotta admit that everything that happened last night feels like a fever dream and I wish I could live it again for the first time.
Not enough sports drama these days. We need more nights like this. Will I ever feel like this ever again?
RIP Riko but his death only makes this more dramatic. Mark your calendars guys. We witnessed a once in a lifetime event.

My thoughts on the Exy Championship Finals
So the Foxes won the Championship. Who would've thought, am I right? I've only been following exy for the last 2 years, but I know that last night's win was unprecedented and that we might never see something like it again. The game was intense from start to finish. Hell, it was intense BEFORE the game even started and, as such, I can't stop myself from commenting on it.
More behind the cut for length
First, let's be real y'all: the Foxes won because they're good, not because the ERC is afraid of some mobster kid.
You wanna know how I know this? Because I watched this match from the start. Back in October, the Foxes seemed to have taken the loss before the game even began. Last night, they had the strongest start they’d had all year.
Sure, the goal lit up for the Ravens first, but we all saw how the Raven had to take the Foxes seriously for the first time ever.
Let's talk about some of the incredible plays we saw early on from Kevin, shall we? This man truly came into the court with a fresh tattoo like 'whaddup I got a big cock'. Not only did he manage to score the first point for the Foxes, but he did so building a play from the very start by going past Riko and pushing Johnson to the back in a move so bold that all Lane could do was watch (and watch Josten's sneaky ass. Who taught this kid? I'm seriously impressed at his speed and the way he managed to be everywhere)
Then we have the impressive Dan Wilds (can I get an amen?) catching some honestly impossible Raven passes. You can see someone's been studying her competition because she truly managed to see passes that I completely missed. She was excellent anticipating moves and getting the ball back to Kevin or Josten with as much speed as possible. I honestly think that she's my idol. Definitely top 3 female atheletes of our generation (yes, I'm serious). You'll surely see me following her career if she goes pro (please God, I am only asking for this in life. Let me see Dan Wilds go pro.)
So we went to halftime break seven-three, with the Foxes being run down by the Ravens, and the Ravens about to get a completely fresh line up. I was honestly incredibly impressed by this point and if the game had ended there I would have still left the game a Palmetto fan.
But then the second half started.
Guys, I cannot overstate the excitement of seeing Kevin fucking Day stride to half-court left-handed.
The way I gasped.
I stood from my seat for the first time ever with thousands more people who all realized what just happened before any of the Ravens did.
Kevin Day started playing for real.
This dude scored just three minutes into second half, and then five minutes later (LITERALLY FIVE MINUTES GUYS) he did it again.
Deadliest piece on the board, motherfuckers.
That's not to discount the rest of the team's efforts because holy shit did anyone see Andrew Minyard on goal? Did we all witness the absolute storm of shots he blocked flawlessly? I'd never in my life seen him play like that, intense and lightning-fast and determined.
All in all, we got to the last 15 minutes with the score at eight-six and Reacher punching Kevin like this was a goddamn boxing match. When the dude didn't stop at one, I became seriously worried he would knock Kevin unconscious.
Thus the teams joined the fight. It took a while to separate them and Reacher got carded and sent out. In my opinion, Kevin's yellow card was uncalled for since he didn't start the fight nor did he punch Reacher, all he did was block and defend himself from the rest of the vicious Ravens.
Kevin, of course, scored in the foul shot which seemed to make the Ravens even more furious. I don't know who's the Ravens' therapist, but they should fire the guy because these guys seriously have something very wrong with them. And before you get started in the comments, Williams literally went against the goalkeeper. Hello? Can anybody hear me? He went hard against the GOALKEEPER. Hard enough the sensors lit up with a point.
Then we saw something strange when Josten (who can keep track of this kid for real) was there in a second, pushing Williams hard enough to throw him off his feet (where does he get his strength?? I get that he's an elite athlete but he cannot be more than 130 pounds, how does he do it?) Then he just went back to his mark like nothing happened. Josten just crossed half the court in a blink to defend his goalkeeper. I'm sure Josten didn't move half as fast to defend Kevin when he got punched. Much to think about and ponder.
Anyway, whatever that interaction sparked in the team, it meant they were subbing my beautiful Dan Wife.. ehem, sorry, Wilds for Josten and Josten for Boyd, who was limping by this point (seriously, Ravens? Go to therapy. It's a GAME. I get this is your careers, but it's not life and death. You should not be making this much damage not even for all the money in the world.)
Next time Kevin scored (deadliest piece on the board!) and they tied eight-eight was when my heart started beating faster than it ever has. I can't explain the vibes in the crowd because a lot of hardcore Raven fans were on the verge of tears. They were suffering like someone was sacrificing their favorite players to an ancient god or something.
The longest ten minutes of my life passed as no one scored, then Berger somehow bypassed Minyard and scored. I thought this was the end of it, the Foxes were running on fumes, beyond what any sane person would continue playing.
I guess all of the Foxes are a little crazy, because Kevin (Kevin Day, after this game I worship the ground you walk on) managed to score the next time the Ravens fouled the Foxes and they were tied again.
I was ready for shootouts, I have to say it. I never in my life could have imagined that Hemmick would go in for Reynolds and Boyd would come back to the game to replace Minyard, Aaron.
The match then proceeded to be insane until it was tied nine-nine.
Out of nowhere, with two marks on him and a strength that would put Greek gods to shame, Kevin motherfucking Day scored.
The buzzer went off two seconds later.
The Foxes won. The Foxes won the goddamn championship with two seconds on the clock.
When I say the crowd went absolutely wild at the spectacle they had just witnessed would be putting it mildly.
Kevin Day, man. What a specimen. I'm seriously in awe of his absolute everything. This man is taking the sport to a new level and I'll happily follow his career to the fucking Olympic games. Mark my words, world. Kevin Day will make Court and take the US to its biggest Olympic win in history.
I will not comment on the events that happened between Riko Moriyama, Neil Josten, and Andrew Minyard because I think it takes away from the most incredible exy game in history. As I said before, I hope the Ravens get the psychological help they so obviously need.
And that's it on that. Incredibly thankful to my best friend and Raven fan, Jules, who got me into the sport watching Kevin Day play and she was right, I would not regret it.
If you stuck around for that whole post, let me know what you thought of the game in the comments. I want to keep my journal drama free, so refrain from commenting on the Riko/Neil feud or I'll delete your comment.

RIP Riko Moriyama
Official statement by Edgar Allan University.
Riko Moriyama has committed suicide at Evermore Stadium on the early hours of Saturday following the Ravens' defeat against the PSU Foxes.
Regardless of my views on the Ravens as a whole (USC fan here), this is terrible news to wake up to on what should have been a momentous occasion for the Foxes and the sport as a whole.
His family has declined to comment at this time.
He will be missed.

Exciting news!
My husband and I just got back from the PSU-EAU game. The drive back was terrible, Raven fans were being a nuissance, and I really wanted to pee but it seemed like every store closed for the game and I had to hold it all the way across state lines.
Still, I had a great time at what was possibly the game of the decade. Been a PSU fan for the last 2 years but I never felt more excited than I was tonight when Kevin scored the final point with only 2 seconds to spare.
Ngl seeing Riko raise his racquet against Neil almost stopped my heart but I'm glad Andrew was there to stop him. Sure, breaking the dude's arm is a bit much but I think everyone who was court side and saw Riko go for Neil's head was relieved that we didn't see brains splatter against the walls.
I said it before and I'll say it again: the Ravens are a cult and they need to be disbanded before they kill someone on the court.
Now I gotta go to bed. I did not get the day off and it's already Saturday. My shift starts in 6 hours ugh

Ravens vs Foxes: Incredible game that will push Exy forward
Before anyone comes at me: I'm personally a Trojans fan. I have no stakes on this game except my love for this bastard sport.
With that out the way: holy shit did y'all see the game?
I gotta say that ever since the Foxes won over the Trojans a couple of weeks ago, I secretly harbored a desire to see them lose against the Ravens for making Jeremy take on the craziest decision he's made ever since he became captain, but after this game, I realize the Foxes are a much better team than everyone, including me, gave them credit for.
First and foremost, because it has to be repeated, Kevin Day played the second half left-handed and proceeded to scored TWICE in a row with, like, a 5-minute difference. Yes, the same guy who broke his hand (at a ski accident? Remember last week's "I've never been skiing"? Not to sound insane but if what happened to Kevin was intentional, I can see why) a little over a year ago (I think?) and everyone dismissed saying that his career was over. Kevin fucking Day, ladies and gentlemen.
If Kevin Day doesn't make Court someday, I'm gonna be pissed. This man just gave the whole world a lesson on perseverance and how keeping your head in the game can change a game forever. I'm not exaggerating when I say people will analyze this game for years to come. (I am people).
The Ravens behaved in typical Raven fashion and fouled anyone and everyone in that court. Williams fucking fouled the tiny goalkeeper for fuck's sake. There are limits even in this bastard sport. Riko almost brained Josten on live TV. Don't get me wrong, I condemn Minyard's actions against Riko, but if no one had stopped Riko somehow, we would have witnessed a homicide live on TV. I don't think people realize how insane it was to see a guy threaten another one over a goddamn championship title.
When the Raven were at their worst, the Foxes replied with speed and strength to keep them on their toes. Josten gave some incredible passes. Boyd was on top shape against Riko and Williams and even came back after he left the court with a limp. Wilds was incredible as usual, opening plays for Josten and Kevin that were out of this world. Reynolds was brutal against her marks. Even Walker, who had the misfortune of being starter goalkeeper, stopped many a shot that would've made the Foxes comeback impossible.
The team was a well-oiled machine that knew how to keep the Ravens on their toes and how to recover from the absolute worst.
Of course, I can't leave without commenting on the INSANE improvement Minyard the goalkeeper has shown in the last few games, but most incredibly, how he managed to stop DOZENS of impossible shots on goal. I think Minyard is a goalkeeper to keep eyes on. If he goes the Josten route, we could have a minimum of 3 Foxes making Court someday.
So yeah, I can see why Jeremy thought that going 9-on-9 for the PSU-USC game was the right thing to do. Jeremy realized that the way the Foxes are playing is truly pushing the whole sport forward. The Foxes have won over a new enthusiast. No, I'm not abandoning my guys at USC, but I'll be cheering on the Foxes' next game.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments

Ravens vs Foxes Report
I can't believe people are cheering on the Foxes winning when there's the literal son of a mobster among them? And a literal murderer?? Yes, a literal murdered, whose twin brother is just as violent and vicious.
Did you see what they did to Riko? And on live TV! Imagine what they would do in private!
I'm disgusted with the sports world as a whole.
More thoughts to come in the morning when I'm not blinded by rage.

How many games can you say end with the underdog defeating the unbeatable? How many games end with a point at the last 2 seconds? How many times do you see a 5' dude break another guy's arm on live TV?
It's too late for me but I'll post a full review tomorrow morning.

[THEORY] The Minyard/Josten relationship
We're putting the tinfoil hat on for this one, my guys.
I think it's not unreasonable to think, given their reactions to the Ravens, to think Andrew Minyard and Neil Josten are together together. Like, for real together. None of that crazy stuff I posted a couple of weeks ago about Neil and Riko. I can't believe I didn't see it before.
I'm putting this stuff behind the cut and I don't want anyone to say I didn't warn you
Andrew Minyard and Neil Josten are dating and keeping it under wraps for the same reason Jeremy Knox tried to keep it under wraps.
In a world where athletes get put on a pedestal and acquire celebrity status the minute they're considered 'good', you have wonder, how many of them are under enormous pressure to perform masculinity at the Sports Standard of the moment, specially in a sport that's relatively new and it's still trying to attract a larger following (after last night though, I wonder how much people Exy really mobilizes around the world. Evermore was filled to the brim with people.)
So let's analyze what happened last night.
Williams fouled Minyard (from now on Andrew so you know I'm referring to Minyard 03, the goalkeeper, and not 05. God knows the Ravens fouled both Minyards several times) and Neil Josten —striker and mob heir apparently— ran over half of the court to defend him, pushing Williams with unthinkable strength.
We saw Matt Boyd physically stop Neil from going against Williams again. They had a brief exchange that ended on Neil glancing back at Williams and going back to his place on the court.
Then, the kicker: upon winning the title, Riko Moriyama and Neil Josten have a short exchange that causes Riko to raise his racquet against Neil in a way that meant business. At the very least, it was a threat. At its worst, Riko intended to beat Neil with his racquet either over his back or his unprotected head, which would have probably killed Neil.
But that never happened because Andrew Minyard ran from the goal to where Neil knelt on the floor with his own racquet, stopping Riko's racquet and breaking Riko's arm in the process.
Let me be clear: I don't think Andrew intended to break Riko's arm; I think he saw Neil in danger and acted on instinct, using his insanely good reflexes that stopped dozens of shots on goal during the match to protect Neil from harm.
And Andrew was not the Fox closest to Neil and Riko, no, that was Boyd, who, upon hearing Riko's scream, was by Neil's side in a second. Andrew was definitely going to celebrate with his team, casually walking towards them, but paying attention to what was going on with Neil and Neil only. How else do you explain that Boyd, who was closest to Neil, did not get there first? That's because Boyd was distracted going for his teammates to celebrate their win. Not Andrew though. Andrew was laser-focused on only one person in that court and that was Neil.
We all know the Ravens are known for their violent tendencies inside the court (and perhaps outside? What happened to Jean Moreau? Read my post about that over here) but are the Ravens crazy enough to kill someone over a title? Perhaps not all of them, but Riko Moriyama definitely is.
I'll need to examine the footage later to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that at multiple times during the game Neil and Andrew exchanged words. I told you once that I thought Andrew didn't talk to anyone so I thought it was weird when I saw him hanging around Neil at the last game against USC, but I didn't know their devotion ran so deep.
I must get my hands on this game as soon as possible. And perhaps every Foxes game since Josten started at PSU.

Great night for exy enthusiasts!
What a game. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the Foxes won the goddamned championship.
There were so many great plays, the whole team was spectacular...and Kevin! What a star! I had no idea he could still play left-handed. He must've really kept it under wraps. What willpower not to bust those moves the whole season. Because let's be real, there were many times where the Foxes could have used a little heavenly touch haha.
But alas, Minyard's reaction to Riko threatening Josten seems a little much. I hope they sanction him because if Riko can never play again, the sport's going to lose one hell of a player.

Coming at you LIVE from my living room
Fasten your seatbelts, everyone, I'm about to liveblog the hell out of this match. I haven't felt this crazy about sports since the last Olympics and you KNOW I'm going to be all about my boy, Certified Badass Neil Josten.
Edited to add: I'm putting this behind a cut for two reasons: length and discussion of serious injuries.
EDIT: Well done, Dan! That's how you start a game.
EDIT: Ok we knew the Ravens would score first, we saw this coming. We trained for this.
EDIT: YES THAT'S MY BOY NEIL WITH THE MOST INCREDIBLE PASS FOR KEVIN TO OPEN UP THE SCORE FOR THE FOXES.
EDIT: Bro can someone tell the ravens to calm down a bit, the game is barely starting and some of them are frothing at the mouth already.
EDIT: OUCH another Raven point
EDIT: And another
EDIT: LET'S GO KEVIN
EDIT: I don't know if my heart can take any more of this game. We're not even in half time and I'm seeing Hemmick flag :(
EDIT: First half was intense. Seven-three with the Ravens winning. Who knows if they'll be able to pull another miracle this season (if you can call the match against USC a miracle because I, for one, knew the minute they announced the lineups that it was a Palmetto win. I didn't doubt them for a second.)
EDIT: This is the longest a half-time break has ever lasted. My stomach hurts and I'm not even at Evermore!!! I can't imagine how everyone supporting the Foxes must feel there. By the way, did y'all see that handsome fella greeting Nicky Hemmick? I'm guessing that's the rumored boyfriend. Hemmick, you whore, you had him hidden where exactly?
EDIT: HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT IS KEVIN GOING TO PLAY LEFT HANDED AM I TRIPPING OR IS KEVING HOLDING THE RACQUET WITH HIS LEFT HAND OH MY GOD
EDIT: KEVIN IS ACTUALLY PLAYING LEFT HANDED AND HE JUST SCORED A BEAUTIFUL POINT
EDIT: god oh my god for a moment there I had forgotten how good Kevin is. He's outplaying the Ravens like it's nobody's business and oh my god I was typing this and missed another point??? Kevin??
EDIT: I've been saying this the whole year, but when Andrew Minyard gets his head in the game, this shit's SERIOUS. Bro has a storm of balls raining down on him and he's stopping them like his life is on the line. Sweet Jesus, this tiny man is going to give me a heart attack.
EDIT: WHAT THE FUCK REACHER??? THAT WAS LITERALLY OUT OF NOWHERE, UNCALLED FOR AND ILLEGAL?
my man, is anybody seeing this live or? Reacher was out there with intent to knock my King, sorry, my QUEEN unconscious. He should get a suspension, not just a red card.
By the way, carding Kevin is INSANE, what the fuck, man? Boyd, I can see. My guy just ran into Reacher and body slammed the hell out of him, but Kevin? He was defending himself! I'm not even sure he got a hit on Reacher.
EDIT: hehe scored on the foul. I'm so proud of my man.
EDIT: WILLIAMS WHAT THE FUCK
EDIT: oh? my boy, Certified Badass Neil Josten, just fucking ran at the speed of light to get between Williams and Minyard (the goalkeeper). And now Boyd seems to be stopping him from going nuclear? Am I seeing this right? God if Neil and Andrew have a thing I am going to pass out for real this time.
EDIT: The Foxes playing a wild card by subbing Wilds for Josten and Josten for Boyd (is Boyd okay? I think he was limping when he left? fucking Ravens)
EDIT: they're fucking tied eight-eight my heart!!! can somebody think of my heart?!
EDIT: Raven point. How did Berger manage to get around Minyard? Only God knows.
EDIT: If the Ravens could stop playing dirty for a fucking second, that would be great
EDIT: THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT BABY!!! NINE-NINE!!
EDIT: gOD THIS IS GONNA GO TO SHOOTOUTS IT'S BEEN 10 MINUTES AND NO ONE ELSE HAS SCORED
EDIT: KEVIN MOTHERFUCKING DAY LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THAT'S HOW YOU WIN A MATCH AND SEND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE INTO CARDIAC ARREST AT THE SAME TIME HOLY SHIT DID WE ALL SEE THIS
good god the Foxes just won the championship
the foxes just won the fucking championship
started from the bottom and now we're heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere!!!!
wait a minute is Neil—
Riko fucking—
oh my god guys what the fuck just happened?
Did Andrew Minyard just break Riko Moriyama's arm on live TV? To protect my boy Certified Badass Neil Josten from fucking dying on screen???
Fuck man, the broadcast cut to the news and I need to know what the fuck just happened
EDIT 1:30AM: the Foxes are okay, apparently. Riko was taken to the hospital and he'll live a sore loser for the rest of time. GO FOXES!!!
Thanks for coming along with the ride!
